PHILOSOPHY

Welcome!
Here at OnTrack Osteopathy, formerly Heaths Road Osteopathy, we have been providing professional osteopathic care for residents of Hoppers Crossing, Werribee, Werribee South, Tarneit, Truganina, Wyndham Vale, Laverton, Point Cook and the wider Wyndham community since 2007. Our philosophy at Heaths Road Osteopathy is to try to recognise that everyone is an individual.

Our clients all have different needs and their bodies need to perform differently depending on their age, job, physical make up and leisure activities. Because each person is different from one another, the Osteopaths at Heaths Road Osteopathy endeavour to provide and tailor osteopathic care specifically to each patient’s needs.
To book an appointment or find out more, please feel free to contact us at the clinic.
ABOUT OSTEOPATHY
History

Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine dating back to 1874. It was developed by Andrew Taylor Still, who was the son of a doctor and became a licenced doctor himself in the state of Missouri, USA. However, after three of his children died suddenly, Andrew Taylor Still saw the medicine of his era as incomplete and began the search for something better.
“I began to look at man. What did I find? I found myself in the presence of an engine – the greatest engine that man could conceive of.” – Andrew Taylor Still

(C Trowbridge, Andrew Taylor Still 1828-1917, Thomas Jefferson University Press, Northeast Missouri State University, Kirksville, 1991, p.115.)
Andrew Taylor Still died on December 12, 1917 leaving an already established American School of Osteopathy.
Philosophy
Osteopathy is a ‘whole body’ system of manual therapy. Osteopathy is a way of detecting and treating damaged parts of the body, such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. When the body is balanced and efficient, just like a well-tuned engine, it will function with minimum wear and tear, leaving more energy for living. (Reference: General Osteopathic Council 2004, About Osteopathy, London, viewed on 7 January 2008 from https://www.osteopathy.org.uk/visiting-an-osteopath/about-osteopathy/).
Osteopathy follows these four main principles:
-
The body is a unit;
-
It has its own self-protecting and regulating mechanisms;
-
Structure and function are reciprocally interrelated;
-
Rational Treatment considers the preceding three principles.
(Reference: Kuchera, W.A. & Kuchera, M.L. 1992, Osteopathic principles in practice, 2nd edn, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine Press, Missouri).
